You will develop your academic and language skills including reading, writing, listening and speaking, as well as your grammar and vocabulary. You will also undertake a project related to your undergraduate degree.

You will learn about the British way of life including the UK's geography, politics, educational and legal institutions, as well as developing independent learning and study skills.

You will learn basic IT skills and how to use English in a business setting. You will learn how to pitch business ideas in English and give presentations on a range of topics.

After completing this course your communication and presentation skills, time management, problem solving, and organisation and planning skills will all increase. Your intercultural awareness and self-confidence will benefit and you will be able to show greater initiative in all that you do. All of these skills will prepare you both for your next programme of study and when you are looking for work after you graduate.

Our course welcomes a range of guest speakers. They will provide unique and insightful views and opinions on settling into the UK and how to achieve the best from your time at university. You will also have the opportunity to attend and take part in a conference where you can meet international foundation students from other universities in the UK. When studying at our University, you will be able to volunteer for a range of opportunities, both here and abroad.

Our course is accredited by the British Council and taught by highly qualified and experienced teachers.

In the recent British Council inspection of our English Language Teaching provision in the School of Languages we are pleased to announce that we gained 8 points of excellence. This is an outstanding achievement and places us in the top 1.5% of British Council accredited Language Schools in the UK. Particular excellence was noted in teaching, teachers' qualifications, academic management, learner training, premises and academic resources, the leisure programme and pastoral care.

In the International Student Barometer Summer Wave 2012 we came 2nd in the UK for our visa advice and learning spaces.
