Entry requirements
Additional Requirements: Applicants should have a HND, Foundation degree or equivalent award in the cognate subject of Sport achieving 60% merits in the final year. You should also hold GCSE grade C or above in English Language and Maths or equivalent awards. Due to the popularity of this course, we may use selection criteria based on your personal attributes; experience and/or commitment to the area of study. This information will be derived from your personal statement and reference and will only be used if you have met the general entry requirements.An enhanced criminal history (DBS) check maybe required for certain modules which involve working with children and/or vulnerable others. The DBS in the UK is currently not able to conduct overseas criminal record checks, therefore international applicants, those without British Citizenship and British Citizens with a significant period of overseas residency will therefore require a criminal records check or certificate of good conduct from their home/overseas country before undertaking work with children and/or vulnerable others.
IELTS:
IELTS 6.0 with no skills below 5.5, or an equivalent qualification. The University provides excellent support for any applicant who may be required to undertake additional English language courses.
Mature Applicants
Our University welcomes applications from mature applicants who demonstrate academic potential. We usually require some evidence of recent academic study, for example completion of an access course, however recent relevant work experience may also be considered. Please note that for some of our professional courses all applicants will need to meet the specified entry criteria and in these cases work experience cannot be considered in lieu.

There will be the chance to volunteer for sporting events such as World Championships or the Commonwealth Games.

You can also can boost your CV by gaining nationally recognised sporting qualifications such as UK Coaching Certificates and gym and personal trainer, which are both available at our University.

SPORT VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES

We offer a sport volunteering opportunities for anyone with an interest in sport. If you want to stay ahead of the game and have a competitive advantage in the job market then sport volunteering is an ideal way to gain extra knowledge and skills on top of your degree. Volunteering is a huge advantage if you want to pursue a career in the sports industry - and it will look great on your CV.

    The aim I have is to maintain and extend the choice our students have, improving your time with us, developing your interests and making it a truly personalised learning experience.

  • Professional life as a sports scientist for Costas began in 1993 at Leeds Leisure Services, where he delivered exercise testing and training advice for endurance athletes. At the same time, he developed fitness instructor education programmes for Leeds City Council. Costas joined us as a senior lecturer in 2003 and his major research interests include examining the role of exercise in cardiac rehabilitation.

The tuition fee for the year for students entering in 2015/16 is £9000. The amount you will pay may increase each year to take into account the effects of inflation.

Sports uniforms - Buying specific sports uniform or equipment is not a formal requirement; however you will be expected to wear appropriate clothing for sessions in different environments. The cost of clothing is variable and you may be able to wear something you already own if it is appropriate.

Coaching and First Aid qualifications - You will have the opportunity to gain additional qualifications in coaching and First Aid. Individual costs will vary depending on the qualification.

    Our state-of-the-art labs include a human performance lab, a cardio-respiratory lab, blood sampling room for biochemical marker work, a full working physiology lab for monitoring athletes, a full body composition scanner and a nutrition laboratory.

Home to our first-rate sporting facilities – Headingley Campus has a rich and diverse history having played to visitors such as Winston Churchill and Oscar Wilde. Set in 100 acres of parkland, with easy access to Leeds city centre, many of our buildings look out onto our grassy acre – a perfect place for hanging out, playing games and catching up with friends on long summer days.
