Overview

Recognised across the PR industry and beyond, this course will enable you to build on your experience and develop your skillset to drive your career forward.

Developed and accredited by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR), this course will provide you with an in-depth introduction to PR practice and will cover planning, media relations and the impact of social media. You will develop expertise in communicating via a variety of channels such as press releases, blogs and social media.

Your three assessed modules will reflect professional PR practice and will develop expertise and skills in three essential areas. You will learn using real-life case studies and using your current place of work as the basis for your assessed units. For each unit you will attend a two-day teaching session at City Campus before completing your assignment in the following three-months, supported remotely by an expert tutor with industry experience.

With more than 25 years’ experience, Leeds Beckett is one of the most established centres of PR education in Europe. The community you will join includes both academic PR scholarship and a wealth of professional industry experts whose business connections will inform your learning.

We understand that full-time study does not suit everyone. That’s why we offer courses which give you the opportunity to decide where, when and how you can get involved in learning. Studying a distance learning course offers the convenience and flexibility to make education work for you. Whether you’d like to fit your studies around childcare, develop your skills while working or, quite simply, want to learn from the comfort of your own home, we can help you gain a qualification at a time and pace that suits your lifestyle.

Like our students on campus, you will have the same excellent teaching and learning resources, however you’ll find these online instead of in a lecture theatre. Not only are all the modules taught online, but you will also have access to an online community and more than 140,000 books and journals in our online library.

Richard Bailey
Senior Lecturer
Richard is an experienced public relations educator, a Fellow of the CIPR and a member of the PRCA. He has extensive experience as a consultant and professional trainer in the field and has been a senior lecturer since 2003. He was one of the first people in the world to blog about public relations and has edited PRplace.com since 2017.
There are few barriers to entry into public relations. But not all who start out succeed in developing a career in the field. This course can help those in their early years to gain greater understanding of the purpose of their role and to develop from doers into managers, or to move from one sector to another.
