Advanced Practice

This course has been revalidated and our new course is MSc Advanced Clinical Practice. Please click HERE for more information.

Overview

Our course aims to equip health practitioners with the knowledge required to lead and develop practice, diagnostics, therapeutics, decision-making and clinical management. Your learning will be client-centred and clinically focused, helping you develop the skills essential for the job of an advanced practitioner working in a primary or secondary care setting, or any other organisation where advanced diagnostic skills are required.

Our Postgraduate Diploma prepares you to function as an advanced practitioner. You would normally be required to undertake the first five core modules listed below in order to achieve this. Our MSc will help you continue with your academic studies as you undertake an extended project, relevant to clinical practice. You will normally be expected to complete the additional 60 credit Research in Practice module in order to achieve this, which will take a further one year.

Research Excellence Framework 2014
Research Excellence Framework 2014: 40% of our research in the Psychology unit was judged to be world leading or internationally excellent.
We have a long history of providing postgraduate courses in health and social care and this is a well established course. As well as the many senior nurses who study with us, there is growing interest from allied health professionals too, allowing you to mix with those from different professions.

The knowledge, expertise and attitude that you will gain will offer you the opportunity to consider advanced practice in significant depth, whilst also increasing your personal development and academic proficiency. You'll learn skills that you will go on to use in your working environment, such as critique, analysis, clinical reasoning, communication, consultation, team working and time management.

Fees & funding

Studying part-time gives you the flexibility to learn at your own pace. Because of this, our tuition fees are calculated using credit points. Each module you study has a credit point value. Most taught postgraduate modules have a credit point value of 20. The tuition fee for students entering in in 2016/17 on this course is £1080 for each 20 credit point module. For modules with a different credit point value their cost can be calculated by multiplying the credit value of the module by the cost per credit point of £54. The amount you will pay may increase each year in line with inflation.
See further information on financing your studies.

Health and social care staff within Yorkshire and Humber whose organisations provide NHS commissioned services may be eligible for Yorkshire and Humberside LETB funding. NHS funded places are limited and you may need to seek an alternative funding source. To apply for NHS funding use the statement of support form which can be found using this link.
