Our students are drawn from a variety of backgrounds, employment settings and sectors, including early years, youth work, schools, further and higher education, the voluntary sector, law, social work and nursing.
Entry Requirements
Requirements:Candidates for Professional Doctorates should normally have an appropriate honours degree of a United Kingdom higher education institution and have had a minimum of three years of professional experience. Professional experience will be understood as practical experience within the relevant field of enquiry. In addition to completing an application form applicants will also need to submit a research proposal. All applicants who meet the minimum criteria will be invited to interview by the course leader.
English Language Requirement: IELTS 7.0 with no skills below 6.5, or an equivalent qualification. The University provides excellent support for any applicant who may be required to undertake additional English language courses.
Mature Applicants
Our University welcomes applications from mature applicants who demonstrate academic potential. We usually require some evidence of recent academic study, for example completion of an access course, however recent relevant work experience may also be considered. Please note that for some of our professional courses all applicants will need to meet the specified entry criteria and in these cases work experience cannot be considered in lieu.

Please note that all applicants to our University are required to meet our standard English language requirement of GCSE grade C or equivalent, variations to this will be listed on the individual course entry requirements.

    The Professional Doctorate in Education is an ideal programme of study as it enables professionals across a wide range of educational careers to pursue a study of unique interest to them whilst continuing in their chosen career paths.

    Caroline's rich and varied career has included working as a nurse and primary teacher in London, before being appointed as an English as an additional language co-ordinator here in Leeds. Caroline joined us in 2006 and her research focuses on young children's access to silent spaces in the Early Years environment and the significance of these spaces to their learning.
