Engineering Management (Top-Up)

Overview

If you are an aspiring manager, this course will help you fulfil your potential. Our team of experienced engineers will give you the leadership skills and engineering know-how to help you get off the shop floor and advance into a management position.

You will develop a broad knowledge of both mechanical and electronic engineering issues. This expertise will inform your management practice, particularly in terms of accounting and cost control. You will enhance your understanding of maintenance and monitoring management, and you will blend your flair for creativity and technology with the ability to organise and plan.

The level of automation in production is now extremely high. We will show you the software and controls behind the electronics. You will build your skills in discreet event simulation, 3D modelling, analysis of configurations, robotic simulation and in producing efficient components.

Talented engineers are in demand around the world and everything we teach will offer you a global outlook, from international supply chains and financial management of projects, to eco-engineering and the production of sustainable products with different materials, processes and low-carbon designs.

We will give you access to online learning facilities and encourage you to base assignments around your current role, meaning your company can benefit from the work you do.

It is our contacts with industry that make us stand out from the crowd - engineering students from our University have been on trips to Jaguar, Nestle and Coca Cola in recent years, while we offer guest lectures from experienced consultants and the opportunity to interact with and see the work of our students at masters level.

You will be given a full three month license to the Flex Sim package to work on discreet event simulation and you will also have access to our onsite Rapid Prototyper for 3D print designs.

Entry Requirements

Additional Requirements: Applicants should have a HND, Foundation degree or equivalent award in the cognate subject of Engineering.
IELTS:
IELTS 6.0 with no skills below 5.5, or an equivalent qualification. The University provides excellent support for any applicant who may be required to undertake additional English language courses.
Mature Applicants
Our University welcomes applications from mature applicants who demonstrate academic potential. We usually require some evidence of recent academic study, for example completion of an access course, however recent relevant work experience may also be considered. Please note that for some of our professional courses all applicants will need to meet the specified entry criteria and in these cases work experience cannot be considered in lieu.

Please note that all applicants to our University are required to meet our standard English language requirement of GCSE grade C or equivalent, variations to this will be listed on the individual course entry requirements.

Develop your understanding of the simulation tools available to an engineer to take a design from a concept to market. This will include 3D modelling, discreet event simulation and carbon foot print investigation.

We will introduce you to the key processes, tools, techniques and issues associated with project management. Emphasis will be placed on the project lifecycle, the role of the project manager, and legal, ethical and global issues.

You will justify, plan design, build, test and evaluate a significant product to a professional standard, as well as reflecting on your own performance.

An opportunity to explore the support systems of information management and the accountant's contribution in providing relevant information for decision-making and corporate control.

Examine the impact of engineering control on processes and systems. You will investigate the theory, design and implementation of computer controlled industrial systems.

After leaving school Duncan became an engineer at Lucas Aerospace where he gained great industrial experience working on harpoon missiles and RB211 engines. He then studied a mechanical engineering degree and robotics masters. His main passions are automation, manufacturing and robotics in aerospace and the food industry.

Fees & funding

The tuition fee for the year for students entering in 2018/19 is £9250. The amount you will pay may increase each year to take into account the effects of inflation.
