“As an HR consultant, I was getting plenty of great experience, but I felt I needed something more to be able to progress my career to the next level. Bridging that gap was a big motivator for me. The knowledge I gained through studying has proved really useful in everything I’ve done since – from setting up my own HR consultancy to working in a specialised role with a global HR provider.

MODULES & LEARNING

You will be introduced to major debates about theory and practice in the specific fields of leadership, flexibility and change management. You will also learn about the four main strands of HRM: learning and development, resourcing, reward and employment relations.

You will be equipped with a range of skills appropriate to general management practice and specifically the management of HR.

Evaluate the principal internal and external environmental settings of contemporary organisations, within which managers, HR professionals and workers interact in conditions of environmental turbulence, change and uncertainty.

Identify and investigate a live, complex business issue of your choice, from an HR perspective. You will collect and analyse data relevant to your chosen topic, supported by peers, tutors and supervisors to derive supportable conclusions.

Focus on the learning and development of leaders and managers within organisations so you can assess its value and contribution to an organisation's success.

Develop a critical understanding of the role and influence of a range of contextual factors on the design, delivery and evaluation of learning and development plans and interventions.

Explore a wide range of concepts, theories, models and techniques to help develop systematic understanding and critical awareness of mentoring and coaching within the context of professional practice.

You will meet with fellow human resource management (HRM) and learning and development professionals on a weekly basis. In addition, you can build up valuable industry contacts at our networking events attended by professionals working at the top of their fields.

This course meets the standards set by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and on completion, you will be able to join it as a professional member. Your membership of the CIPD will give you access to an extensive range of benefits, including industry-focused training and networking events.

You will have access to impressive facilities, including our Professional Suite. You will practise your presentation skills as you present your research and receive feedback from your tutors and peers.

We are one of few universities in the country to offer access to a Hydra Suite, where you will develop the critical and strategic thinking skills expected in industry.
