“Getting to grips with employment law on my course was really useful, as I was able to transfer the knowledge I learned into my HR managerial role. Postgraduate study can be challenging, but thanks to day release from my employers, and support from my tutors, I was able to find a great work, life and study balance.

MODULES & LEARNING

Acquire a strategic organisational perspective and a basis for progression and application of strategic level skills, competencies, and decision-making capability.

Gain an understanding of the key perspectives on human behaviour within an organisation and on the processes of organising and managing workforce activity.

Develop an appreciation of strategic marketing tools, including brand and online strategies, used by managers to assess their company's market and achieve a competitive advantage.

Undertake an in-depth research project in a subject area that is appropriate to your course and your interests.

An alternative to the Dissertation, apply your learning to a real organisational issue of strategic importance across any relevant business and management discipline. You will be encouraged to manage a client-consultant relationship and work independently.

Introducing the main strands of human resource management: learning and development, resourcing, reward and employment relations. You will also explore theory and practice in leadership, flexibility and change management.

An in-depth look at the dynamics of intercultural differences and intercultural relations and their impact on management practice.

Explore and develop your understanding of key topic areas in the study of organising and managing a workforce to achieve organisational performance measures.

With a strong focus on practical learning, you will make use of our purpose-built business simulation suite, allowing you to devise rapid response strategies to address a range of business-critical challenges and crisis situations. Immediate feedback from a facilitator will help evaluate and improve your analytical and decision making skills.

You will be taught through lectures, seminars and tutorials, using both individual and group work. Your tutors are academic experts, many of whom are Fellows of the Higher Education Academy, and industry practitioners, qualified to professional chartered status in their respective fields.

Our modules have been co-designed by our academic staff and an industry advisory panel to ensure the knowledge and capabilities you develop match senior level responsibilities in organisations across all sectors.

For hands-on experience, you can choose to undertake a consultancy project with one of our partner organisations. You will negotiate the project's finer details directly with the client and present your research to your client and academic supervisor.

A guest lecture programme throughout the year will provide networking opportunities with presenting organisations. Past speakers have included the CEO of the London Stock Exchange and the deputy agent of the Bank of England in Yorkshire and The Humber.
