Overview

This course will help you to better understand and promote physical education as a lifelong process that can benefit individuals, communities and society as a whole. It aims to develop professionals who are capable of making a valuable contribution to the experiences of young people within physical education.

You will develop a critical understanding of contemporary curriculum practice, enhance your knowledge and experience, and engage with different pedagogical models in the teaching of physical education and school sport.

If you are working in schools as a teacher or teaching assistant, are employed in a youth sport role or are a recent graduate, this course provides a strong academic base to enhance your professional development or develop your career your career prospects. It is also an ideal stepping stone should you want to train to be a physical education teacher or have ambitions to progress your studies and expertise to PhD level.

Like our students on campus, you will have the same excellent teaching and learning resources, however you’ll find these online instead of in a lecture theatre. Not only are all the modules taught online, but you will also have access to an online community and more than 140,000 books and journals in our online library.

To study this course, you will require broadband internet connection with a speed of 2mbps and working speakers. You will need Windows 7 / Mac OSX 10.8 or above and have access to Chrome v63 or higher (recommended), Edge v42+, Firefox v57+ or Safari v6+. Java and Adobe Acrobat Reader will need to be enabled and you will need a minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768.

Annette joined Leeds Beckett University in September 2007 to undertake her PhD ‘Telling Tales of Difference? Exploring South Asian, Muslim Girls’ Experiences of Physical Education and Physical Activity.' As Course Director of the Physical Education Academic Group she is committed to teaching about and researching on issues of social justice. She uses her 13 years of experience teaching in further education to work effectively with the diversity of students who embark on our Physical Education and Physical Education with Outdoor Education courses.
Our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes recognise that some students have very clear career goals whilst others are still figuring out what they would like to do after their degree. We have intentionally created courses with sufficient flexibility to enable students to create a course that is right for them. Our teaching staff work hard with our students to help them make informed decisions about their future careers.
