The course is accredited by the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). After a period of individual professional development, you will be able to apply for Chartered Membership status of IOSH.

UCAS Tariff Points: 112 points required. (Minimum 80 from two A Levels or equivalent, excluding General Studies).

Additional Requirements: GCSEs: You will require GCSE C Grades in Mathematics, English Language and the Double Science award or equivalent qualification. Key Skills Level 2, Functional Skills Level 2 and the Certificate in Adult Literacy/Numeracy are accepted in place of GCSEs. Access to HE Diploma: Pass overall with a minimum of 120 UCAS tariff points. Scottish Awards: Minimum of 5 subjects at Grade B at Higher Level. Irish Leaving Certificate: Minimum of 5 subjects at Grade C1 or above at Higher Level of which at least 3 must be at B2 Level 5 or 6 entry Direct entry to Level 5 or Level 6 may be possible depending on your current qualifications and experience. Prospective applicants are advised to arrange to discuss this us at an early stage. Mature Applicants
Our University welcomes applications from mature applicants who demonstrate academic potential. We usually require some evidence of recent academic study, for example completion of an access course, however recent relevant work experience may also be considered. Please note that for some of our professional courses all applicants will need to meet the specified entry criteria and in these cases work experience cannot be considered in lieu.

Develop your knowledge of how Health and Safety legislation is applied in the workplace, and of the work based practice that supports the application of the legislative requirements.

Enhance you self-development by using methods to advance your professional knowledge and skills. You'll be introduced to the importance of ethical practice, using the IOSH code of conduct as a guide.

Gain an appreciation of research methods and strategies in order for you to prepare a viable research proposal.

You will develop an understanding of the environmental and public health impacts of human activity - especially those by businesses - and the appropriate legal, technical and organisational controls.

Examine how organisations are designed and develop by investigating the role and function of the different departments, and how they use the different range of communication methods to assist in the safety management process. In particular you will investigate and compare effective strategies to enable effective safety management to take place in a diverse range of settings.

Gain an understanding of the harmful effects that poor work conditions can have on the human body and the diseases this may cause, and how different body systems operate to try and prevent ill health. You will develop knowledge of what Occupational Health practitioners can do, and the very strict duty of care imposed upon them.

Examine the science of workplaces by investigating the importance of fitting the workplace to the employee, and examine the worker workplace interaction.

Develop your knowledge and increase your understanding of controlling risk in regards to specific hazardous agents, including the control and mitigation of adverse environmental effects.

Develop your knowledge and understanding of controlling risk in industries where normal activities involve work of high hazard levels.

Develop knowledge of the common types of hazards, the risk assessment process and skills in the completion of different types of risk assessment for the identified hazards.

Work independently to produce a project report on a subject relevant to the practice of health and safety management.

Develop an appropriate workplace assignment with an external client, or if you are already employed, within your workplace. This module includes 120 hours placement activity.

We offer practical hands-on experience alongside your studies in the area of health and safety management.

Our staff expertise includes safety practitioners with extensive and high levels of current industry knowledge and experience. Accredited by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), our course conforms to the IOSH professional syllabus. On successful completion, you can apply for Graduate Membership of IOSH, and after fulfilling the Initial Professional Development you can apply for Chartered Membership.

FEES & FUNDING
The tuition fee for the year for students entering in 2017/18 is £9250. The amount you will pay may increase each year to take into account the effects of inflation.
