This course is ideal if you are interested in how buildings work and how building projects are managed. You will explore three major themes - the nature and role of the construction industry, management in the construction industry, and technology of buildings.
Quantity surveyors are the cost managers of the construction industry. While studying for a recognised degree, you will learn how quantity surveyors organise, control and manage the costing of projects, including building economics, contracts and construction law, construction technology and project management.
As the UK's cities and towns continue to expand, there is an increased demand for experts in property and real estate management. This course reflects the real-world workings of the property and construction industries, preparing you for a career in property investment and development, property management or any number of associated areas.

Whether you are a graduate with a degree in a built environment subject or already work in the construction industry and want to upskill for a promotion or new construction role, we will teach you how to analyse the performance of existing buildings and design and model new energy-efficient buildings.
You will gain an understanding of building physics and performance, including how buildings respond to weather, how to heat buildings efficiently and how bricks, mortar, timber and insulants act as thermal barriers.
The energy performance of today's new buildings must withstand far more scrutiny than ever before. Those involved or investing in construction projects will need an increasing awareness of these factors to maintain compliance with the law, as tougher EU and UK directives for building performance are drawn up and legislated.
You will use the latest technologies to evaluate building performance, including software to model 2D thermal movement or track moisture. You will also be exposed to real-life testing sites and the methods used to investigate heat loss, heat transfer, moisture development and thermal bridges.
Your course will provide an essential platform if you are wanting to evaluate the energy efficiency of buildings, or if you want to get involved in building forensics or surveying.
Whether you are looking for a route into the construction industry or you want to progress your current career by becoming a chartered surveyor, your course will prepare you to progress to chartered building surveyor status with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)*.
