Hospitality Business Management | BSc (Hons)

The UK hospitality industry is thriving, with a growing demand for highly knowledgeable graduates to fulfil management functions across the sector. We will help you to be innovative and forward thinking, to manage complex businesses effectively and to develop these businesses by thinking strategically. Putting theory into practice, you will develop your project management skills devising, developing and successfully implementing an array of hospitality events designed by industry.

You could gain a year's industry experience and boost your employability skills by choosing the sandwich option on this course. We are proud of our record of helping graduates find their ideal job - many meet their future employers for the first time through this course.

If you have studied for an HND or Foundation degree, we also offer a one-year BSc (Hons) Hospitality Leadership & Management (Top-Up). If you select this option, you will study the year three modules listed below.

If you choose to study our sandwich option, you will spend your third year working in the hospitality industry, gaining the practical skills you need to be a successful leader in the sector. Our placement students have worked at companies both at home and abroad including the Radisson Blu here in Leeds and La Gorce Country Club in Miami.

Responsible Tourism Management | PG Cert

Within the travel and tourism industry, there is an increasing focus on the need to adopt responsible business practices that improve the quality of life for communities and conserve the environment and local cultures. This course helps meet the resulting demand for managers with the ability to implement responsible tourism strategies within marketing, operations and product development.

You will explore domestic and international tourism and you will understand that the principles of responsible tourism are as applicable to the Yorkshire Dales as they are to The Gambia. In addition to developing your subject knowledge, you will learn how to plan, implement and evaluate responsible tourism policies and practices.

This is the only responsible tourism course in the world certified by the UNWTO.TedQual programme established by the United Nations World Tourism Organization. It is taught by staff with first-hand experience in tourism management, research and consultancy, who will share their global expertise with you.

TEACHING AND LEARNING

This course is primarily delivered distance learning with some face-to-face teaching. The incorporation of distance learning is to enable you to continue working whilst undertaking the Postgraduate Certificate.

While most modules are delivered in a distance learning format, they do incorporate an optional weekend of traditional face-to-face contact. Although these teaching weekends are optional, we strongly recommend attending them if at all possible because of the obvious benefits you will receive.

For each distance learning module you will be sent an up-to-date manual of 150 to 200 pages which includes readings, tasks and links to further material.

ASSESSMENT

A blend of assessment methods are used to practice and further develop your professional skills. Individual and small group assignments will be undertaken and performance evaluated through oral presentations, reports and essays.
